We had the honor of presenting this year’s FRED (For Really Excellent Doer’s) Award to Ella Boyle. Ella is a Ewing’s sarcoma survivor and a fierce Children's Hospital of Orange County (CHOC) advocate. Ella Boyle has overcome, and accomplished, so much in her life. Her impact on our community, and the young patients at CHOC, truly cannot be measured. At age 4, Ella was diagnosed with stage 1 Ewing’s sarcoma that required 14 rounds of chemotherapy, and a 15-hr lower leg bone transplant. She showed amazing resilience throughout, from re-learning how to walk to doing laps around CHOC’s oncology floor! The brave steps she took in treatment and recovery inspired the formation of Team Brave Boyle in 2016 for the annual CHOC Walk in the Park. In fact, Ella served as the 2019 CHOC Walk Ambassador, and her team has raised over $70,000 for CHOC to date! But the footprint of Ella’s impact does not stop there; since age 5, Ella has spearheaded fundraising events at school and in her community. Together with her classmates, Ella collects of art supplies, crayons and toys to donate to CHOC’s Child Life program, and assembles care packages for Mary’s Kitchen, which provides clothing, meals, and hygiene products for the less fortunate in Orange County. Since the start of Ella’s health journey, she has become a powerful advocate for pediatric cancer research, and has discovered a passion for animals - borne from the resident dogs at CHOC who supported her during treatment. Because of Ella’s dedication, the future is so very bright for her, the children at CHOC, and the community. Please join us on congratulating Ella (AKA Brave Boyle) on this recognition!
