“In November of 2019, Selah’s dad discovered a large hard mass protruding from Selah’s abdomen, we knew something wasn’t right and took her to the ER for x-rays. The x-rays revealed a large mass on her right kidney and 3 smaller masses on her left kidney.
We were rushed to St Joseph’s where they ran more in-depth scans and that is where we received her diagnosis – Stage 5 Bilateral Wilms Tumor. We were devastated and heartbroken, everything was being thrown at us so quickly we could barely understand. She received her port and started her chemo treatments which took place over the following 12 weeks. She handled chemo like a champ and then went into surgery to remove the shrunken tumors. The surgery was a huge success, over 75% of her kidneys were spared and no radiation was needed. After 4 post-surgery chemo treatments, Selah rang the bell as cancer free! The Children’s Cancer Center has been a bright light in such a dark place for us. The staff and volunteers are true gifts to this community. We have been so thankful to be able to have a place to go where people “get us” and are ready and willing to help in any way they can.” – Selah’s Family
