MOMS Orange County

To help mothers and their families have healthy babies by providing health coordination, education and access to community services.

25th Anniversary Reflections

Twenty-five years ago, a crisis in prenatal care existed in Orange County. Newspaper headlines spoke of overcrowding at UCI Medical Center’s labor and delivery units – one of the only hospitals to accept low-income, pregnant women. Those headlines drew attention to the need for changes in how we make services available to populations who are at-risk for adverse outcomes for both mom and baby. Ultimately, positive changes did result. The creation of MOMS Orange County was one of those positive changes. So in light of this milestone anniversary year, we commissioned a review reflecting the perinatal conditions existing in Orange County 25 years ago, and compared them with current issues and conditions affecting moms and babies.
