Debbie Allen Dance Academy

Debbie Allen Dance Academy (DADA) is committed to expanding the reach of dance and theater arts with the hope of enriching, inspiring, and transforming the lives of people across the nation.

DADA’s outreach programs reach thousands of students of all ages each year.

Colibrí Arts
Colibrí Arts is a low-impact energetic movement experience and an artistic outlet for seniors and their caregivers. With classes meeting twice each week at DADA, Colibri Arts students have performed in DADA’s Spring Recital.

Dance Free Days
Twice each year, as DADA’s gift to the community, DADA opens its studios to the public for a day of free dance classes.

J.O.Y. (JOURNEY OF YOURSELF)
J.O.Y. is a new partnership between Ms. Debbie Allen, leading Oncologist Dr. Lawrence Piro and the Debbie Allen Dance Academy. The 7-week program, funded by Wallis Annenberg, The Angeles Clinic and Research Institute and Cedars Sinai, is designed to support cancer patients/survivors using dance and movement. The curriculum focuses on: 1) The importance of exercise in overcoming cancer. 2) Telling your story through dance. 3) Manifesting joy in a physical manner to improve health.
Lecture Demonstrations
DADA Lecture Demonstrations are Informal presentations on the art and history of dance that DADA gives to schools all over Los Angeles. Through engaging commentary and interactive dancing, participants are introduced to a diverse dance vocabulary ranging from ballet to hip hop. Each program runs approximately 60 minutes with specialized lesson plans for children in grades K-12.

Scholarship Program
DADA’s Scholarship Program provides opportunities to over one-hundred and sixty students each year to train in DADA’s Academy Program and Intensives.

Subsidized School Performances
Each year DADA performs Subsidized School Performances of productions like Debbie Allen’s “Hot Chocolate Nutcracker” and “FREEZE FRAME…Stop the Madness.”
