Festival of Children Foundation Kicks Off 23rd Annual Festival of Children with Spectacular Opening Night Party at South Coast Plaza

COSTA MESA, CA – September 4, 2024 – Festival of Children Foundation proudly celebrated the opening night of the 23rd Annual Festival of Children at South Coast Plaza with a remarkable event that brought together community leaders, philanthropists, and advocates for children’s causes. The event was a resounding success, featuring heartwarming tributes, prestigious awards, and generous contributions, all in the name of improving the lives of children.

The evening’s highlights included the presentation of a posthumous proclamation by Orange County Supervisor Katrina Foley honoring the late Tom Wilson. His legacy of leadership and compassion continues to impact countless lives, and his dedication was recognized in a moving tribute by founder and executive director of Festival of Children Foundation, Sandy Segerstrom Daniels.

Additionally, the prestigious KARA (“K”aring And Really Achieving) Award, named in honor of the dedicated champion for children’s welfare, Kara Nguyen, was presented to Leah Lederman. Lederman, was celebrated for her exceptional contributions to the community and her unwavering commitment to making a difference in the lives of young people. At age 17, she lives out how passion for dance can lead to making a positive impact in the world, and has led an initiative to provide financial assistance to younger dancers that otherwise may not be able to participate in this transformative artform.

In a show of immense generosity, Hyundai Hope On Wheels made a significant check presentation of $200,000 to Dr. Lilibeth Torno on behalf of CHOC Hospital. This incredible donation will support critical research and care, furthering CHOC’s mission to provide the best possible outcomes for children battling cancer. Hyundai Hope On Wheels continues to be a vital partner in the fight against pediatric cancer, and this donation underscores their ongoing commitment to helping children in need.

“We are honored to celebrate the start of this year’s Festival of Children with such a meaningful and impactful evening,” said Sandy Segerstrom Daniels, Founder and Executive Director of Festival of Children Foundation. “This night not only marks the beginning of a month-long celebration of children and families, but it also serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of community and generosity.
