Greater New York Councils, BSA

The Greater New York Councils, Boy Scouts of America has helped over five million young people become “Prepared for Life.” The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical choices over their lifetime by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law.

The Greater New York Councils (GNYC) is a local council of the Boy Scouts of America that serves the New York City area. As a council GNYC has a unique structure in that it is sub-divided into boroughs, each led by a borough executive. Boroughs are then divided into districts. The Council has helped over five million young people become “Prepared. For Life.” since its inception in the 1920s.

The programs of the Boy Scouts of America serve young people by enabling them to develop healthy habits and make positive choices. Scouting values emphasize; a lifelong appreciation of personal fitness, including the prevention of bullying, environmental stewardship & sustainability, leadership development and STEM Education. Scouting is both fun and empowering; introducing young people to careers and preparing them to be active citizens.
